In a new paper published in the Royal Society of Chemistry, we report the polymerization and retention of various textures within the NTB phase, which can then be sustained in the nematic phase at room temperature. We illustrate the potential applications of polymerized FCDs from the NTB phase in smart glass technology, and suggest that the polymerized rope-like texture could offer benefits in optical modulators and beam steering applications.
